I lived in a 3rd world country for years and I was able to rent a nice apartment for $100 a month. YES, That's right. PER MONTH. Why is the cost of living so high in America when wages are so low? Health care here is such a ripoff as well.

It's not called ripoff, it's different standards of living which needs some intricate economic explanation. Bottom line is we cannot compare directly how things cost around the world with your own currency. The rent is $100 in your country, but how much is your median salary? $100 represents how many percent of your average household income? In the US, rent varies across the country, huge difference between say New York City and the middle of Texas. On average rent is about 20-25% of US median household income so it's in no way a ripoff.

Third world wages are even lower. You can still live in the rural US areas cheap. Cities cost more because there is competition for housing.
People elect Republicans who keep wages low and healthcare costs high.
