January 2015 is in the past.

You can generally book several months in advance - longer would depend on the hotel.

Ask your sister the difference between "book a hotel" and "read a book". Next time you send your question to "Books and Authors", the Troll Eater will find you.

You're booking late. Jan 2015 was a year and half ago.

First you'll need a time machine.

If you meant 2017, instead of 2015, you can usually book a room up to about 9 months in advance. It can vary from hotel to hotel. Just go to the hotel's website and enter the dates you plan to stay. It will let you know if it's too far in advance.

Brittanie,

The farthest out you can book a room is one year. Sometimes it'll be a little less than a year.

Your best bet is to contact the hotel directly or to use their toll free number. And booking early does not always get you the best rate. Actually, it's just the opposite! The earlier you book the more you're likely to pay.

Rates are based on a lot of things. One of them is the population of the hotel at the time. So if you're booking a year out, the likelihood of the hotel having a lot of rooms for sale is high and you're going to pay a higher rate. When it gets closer to your date of arrival, the hotel may still have a lot of rooms available and thats when the price drops. If it gets close to your arrival date and they're booked up, well then, you know whats going to happen. The rate goes up! If the hotel is experiencing a high volume of traffic they make put a MLS (Minimum Length of Stay) requirement on the reservation.

Also, when you do make your reservation, please, do not book it online using a third party opaque website. Use the hotels website or contact them directly. If you are looking for an "internet rate" then ask the hotel for their non-refundable rate. It'll be the same as whats online.

I hope this helps.
