Well this isnt a very luxurious place if your talking about fancey stuff but there is a beautiful island which is a national park of tasminia called Maria Island. You can stay there in cells in a bunk bed.Theres no power, but there are toilets and barbiques. You have to take all your rubish back with you to mainland tassie when you leave. It is such a beautiful place mountains and a river and the ocean, its totally isolated its really beautiful. You feel like your the only person on earth, apart from the people you go with. The wildlife is amazing kangroos hopping around, birds, possems, wild geese, and alot more. Its just a really great place to get in touch with yourself and mother nature.

For me, I believe that Heaven on Earth would be Earth itself.

This beautiful planet has a lot of faults, that are mostly human made, but the things that God created in the beginning, (everything) is beautiful.

Think, all of the sun kissed beaches, the snow capped mountains on a cool winters day.

The buffalo grazing on the dry Savannah plains.

The monkeys swinging from tree to tree in rich tropical rain forests,

or camels, swaying from side to side as they walk on the steaming hot sand.

The Llamas, looking over South America from the high Andes mountains

or a Sunrise on a hill in the beautiful country of New Zealand

All of these things seem to be heaven to me.

If I could witness these all in my life time(and More) That would be my heaven on Earth.

Heaven on Earth for me would be this beautiful cottage on the mountains of Sri Lanka. The Warriagalla Cottage. It is situated at 3000 feet (1000 metres) on the slopes of a remote mountainside and within a private family tea estate which commands a 270 degree panorama of the central Kandy District of Sri Lanka. The Cottage nestles under the tree-lined canopy of old forests with far off views of Adam's Peak , a holy landmark, and is flanked by tea bushes that come up to the veranda. Surrounding the estate is a steep countryside full of fascinating old and new tea plantations, pine forests, open highland grasslands, towering granite outcrops and thick jungle ridges that run along the Hantanne Mountain range which crosses the Kandy District. This location is about 3.5 hours (130 kms) drive from the coastal capital of Colombo and about 50 minutes from Kandy Town .

Cairns, Queensland Australia is a paradise on earth with all of the eco friendly and adventure tourism you can think of. I have lived there for 20 years, and will go out 'feet first' as the Aussies say. I am a chopper pilot and have flown all around the area on different tours, and it is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth. Take in the surrounds and contrasts, from Jungle to Great Barrier Reef to the desert to the west of the Atherton Tablelands and voila! If you haven't been there, go there and get a good look.

I think Croatia is heaven, and a great vacation spot.

You might never have heard of it, but it is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe.

I can go on and on about all the marvellous things about Croatia, but I will just list a few.

It is known to be ruled by the Roman Emperors, way back at 305 A.D. Some palaces including the Diocletian Palace are located in The Dalmatian Coast, Croatia.

Croatia is reportedly blessed with 315 days of sunshine a year, so it's not unusual for people to go out in the winter.

The country is not just famous for it's palaces, also it's medival castles located in Dubrovnik and it's crystal clear sea and waters.

I find Croatia not very polluted, because I have visited the country last year. There are many thick green forests, and mostly all the beaches are clean, some even have sea urchins living in the waters because of that reason.

I like to think that "heaven on earth" is where I'll live one day. I guess until that day comes, one of the main points of travel for me is discovering places where I would like to live. I'm thinking of temperate rainforest meets the edge of a small town, and if I'm really lucky, maybe within earshot of the sea!

There are also some spectacular places that would be very difficult to live in but are magnificent to see first hand. The sand dune that has formed in a saddle in the Grindstone Range for example, or the magnificently coloured cliffs of Balcoracana Creek make the trip to the Northern Flinders Ranges in South Australia (and the extra spare tyre) worth the effort.

Just avoid camping in the creek beds, and talk to the station owners at Wirrealpa as they can offer great accomodation and will keep an eye out for you - which is an important safety consideration in places this remote.

One more thing; when travelling in remote areas, use a proper four wheel drive, not some catastrophe with an automatic transmission (Auto self-destructs every single time you try to rock the vehicle out of a bog), or a petrol/gas engine that hasn't got the torque to pull you out of sand using the lock to lock technique (power steering can save alot of muscle fatigue here!). Unless your 4x4 has diesel, manual transmission, and no monocoque design to worry about (monocoque chasis is typical of SUVs and regular road cars), it shouldn't leave the road because 4x4 is pretty useless without the low end torque provided by diesel engine or the robustness of manual transmission. Of course, if you pull a vehicle with a monocoque chassis out of a bog you'll probably wind up twisting the chassis - so don't go four-wheel driving in your SUV unless the manufacturer unconditionally guarantees the chassis against winch damage (& presumably you have diesel engine and manual transmission). Also, avoid crossing creeks in flash floods, as these carry sizeable boulders that will severely damage your vehicle if you are lucky, and sweep you and your vehicle away to an inland lake if you are not.

Enough outback! Western Tasmania showcases awsome glacial terrain featuring those U-shaped valleys we all heard about in high school, and I think at Rosebury or Mt Lyell (I forget which) there is a lookout from which you can see a magnificent example of a fault duplex structure.

Heaven on earth whilst traveling is when you find those unexpected places that aren't in the guide books.

Italy, it was the kind restaurant owner who closed shop to take me out back, feed me the spit meat his family and friends were about to enjoy with wine. The fact that he ignored the frescoes he was cooking beneath (and potentially spoiling because of the smoke from the fire) was part of the beauty of the moment, because he accepted his situation without realising the perfection within it.

In Canada, it was a side street in Quebec, filled with local art, street performers and a little old couple who walked slowly hand-in-hand.

In Australia, it's on the side of the mountain that was once a volcano, that now stares out over quiet valleys, catching the wind and the dying warmth of the sun.

If you ever write a book with a thousand places where you're most likely to accidently find these sort of moments, let me know. Though, that may be against the idea of the "accidental".

I think I've seen "heaven on earth" many times. India, Tunisia, Croatia, New Zealand, Malawi, and Costa Rica are all places where I recall thinking--"this is what paradise must be like". However, the place I have always fantasized about visiting is Bhuton. I have seen beautiful photographs in magazines of monks in bright red dress and beautiful mountains. I saw a special on the travel channel last year about a group of explorers who traveled down a river from Bhuton to India. Along the way, they encountered amazing whitewater and some of the most beautiful virgin landscape I have ever seen. They were the first westerners to ever travel on that river. This is my idea of "heaven on earth"--a land filled with vibrant color, beautiful scenery, and smiling people.

My idea of heaven on earth has nothing to do with adventurous, eco-friendly or completely luxurious holidays. Heaven on earth is to volunteer ones services to the less fortunate and not to expect anything back in return. To help the homeless find a home, to make friends with inmates incarcerated in prison, to just understand someone who is suffering, to work to free children in third world nations from hunger, slavery, child prostitution, from being child soldiers; to reach out a hand to women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence, to appreciate people who are shunned by society for just being different, to care about others and to not judge anyone. That's real heaven on earth.

To me heaven on earth is a place in regards to travel is where there are very little tourists, it's cheap, definately has to have water, sunshine and be totally immersed in the cultural surroundings. Night life is a bonus, somewhere where there are bars on the beach but also a chill out spot is you just want to relax and do some soul searching

My heaven on earth holiday destination would be St Helen's Tasmania, Australia. A beautiful seaside fishing village, surrounded by countryside; lobsters, oysters and local fresh fish to indulge the taste buds, beautiful beaches to explore and a friendly welcoming community to make you feel you are Home! I have never been there, but I have dreamt of this place many times and one day I will get there, I will call this place my heaven on earth, my destiny, my home!

A place that is no hotter than 75 degrees and a very lite breeze. Not too much sun, because I have very fair skin, but just enough to keep you warm. I would love to go to a place with the jungle in your back yard and the ocean in the front yard. Where you could walk around barefoot all day not worry about cutting up your feet. Where the animals come up to you when they are hungery and you can sit and eat with them. Not a lot of people, just a few. A place to walk around all day in a bra and a pare of shorts with no shoes. Peaceful and relaxing.

A week in summer on a beautiful island like Sanibel Island, Fla. was before everybody knew about it. At a depth of 6' there is a screen that screens out all sharks and everything else. The sand is clean. No radios are allowed. Hardly anyone on the beach.

Today I walked in my piece of heaven in the countryside in Asilah, Morocco. Cows and sheep were grazing roadside. Donkeys carried mountain women homeward bound from the local souk...the heavens were azure blue without a cloud...the Atlantic ocean sparkled below, the sun shone down on a green and fertile land.

All was right with the world..Fellow walkers passed by : Ssalam a leukim (I come in peace). I thought I had found my paradise...

Then I turned to the south and bulldozers hummed as they turned the soil, trucks scurried by with backfill..Roads are being made, the countryside carved up...It will become like the south of Spain..golf courses, marinas, splendid villas, swimming pools, tennis courts, ..the vista gone: concrete in its place...

How long is a day in paradise? Why do we always have to spoil it?

Going to a river that is flowing, take a boat up the river for several miles and turn around and kill the motor and let it drift back. It's so peaceful, you can hear the wind in the trees and the birds singing and the fish splashing in the water. Sometimes you can watch deer or hogs eating on the side of the bank or the alligators sunning in the sand. It's beautiful.

For me, my trip to the Alhambra in Granada, Spain early in the morning on a warm spring day was pretty close to Heaven on Earth. The city is a vibrant college town, with much to see and do. Great Moroccan food, flamenco shows, arts festivals and gardens. Its close to the Sierra Nevadas for a weekend ski trip and close to the Med Sea for a beach getaway. There is so much history in a wild fusion of Christian and Moorish traditions. I love how much Granada has to offer, whether you are seeking luxury, night-life, simplicity, history, the outdoors, or a taste of a different way of life.

Walking through the gardens of the Alhambra and checking out mosaics, orange trees with a warm jasmine-scented breeze while looking down at the whitewashed houses below was a pretty spectacular experience.

I am middle aged and did loads of traveling when younger. These days it is a bit different and I like to stick closer to home and take more short breaks rather than weeks at a time. My partner and I are childless and prefer places that are not so family orientated. We have found some great "secret" places on the south coast of NSW that we find we migrate to regularly these days. Great weather, tiny community, modern beachhouse at our disposal, a National Park or two nearby and not a tourist in sight - that is heaven to me.

There's so many types of heaven for me...but I guess when it comes down to it it's all about what I want to do in my lifetime, or what I've done. My imagination stretches pretty far...

Walking through secluded hills and fields at dawn, when the frost still covers the ground and dawn is about to break, somewhere like Wales or Devon. I'd love to be sailed down a river, surrounded by steep mountains and cliffs, in a small boat so the calm wouldn't be ruined by the sound of a motor. Any kind of snowscene does it for me as you're skiing cross-country, somewhere like Canada, with a lovely small, warm, snow-covered lodge to go back to afterwards for hot chocolate, with views of the slopes and a small town right outside your door. Sitting by a quiet lake or a river in the Spring/Summertime always does it for me, as does lying in a grassy field completely alone to watch the clouds, beautiful forest walks, being in a park or a forest and being able to clamber up into a tree and just be, skating on a safe but secluded pond or camping just about anywhere. Seclusion does it for me.

I'd also love to shower under a waterfall, and to be able to swim in the lake underneath, walk along a riverside on a lamp-lit street somewhere warm at night, swim on a city rooftop whilst watching the rest of the city...

I know that's a lot, I hope it helps a bit! If you want particular places my favourite places have to be the Minack Theatre in Cornwall, Lydford Gorge in Devon and Vierseenblick in Germany.

Aruba, no doubt. I love the beautiful sunset at night and how nice people treat you there. There is soooooo much to explore there too, the Antilla shipwreck, the California Lighthouse, the Natural Pool, Baby Beach. There are just so many. It is also always breezy there too so the heat is not bad at all. One time when I went there I asked myself is this sand snow because it is so white and soft. A holiday where you can enjoy the best of both worlds - have a kids holiday and an adult holiday with my husband. My "Heaven on Earth" in terms of travel is my dream place to be and my home. I am presently in Deutschland but I've travelled all the way to Europe like Germany, Austria where the mountains were great on winter, Belgium, Netherlands, Prag in Czech Republic and France. It's a very wonderful feeling getting in and up to the top of the wonderful Eiffel Tower in Paris and Notre Dame, the Grand Palais, took on a Bateaux-Mouche to see all the wonderful sights around the waters of the River Seine. Everything in Paris was a dream come true to me, it just felt like heaven that I wanted to go back over and over. Most important of all, my home, where I was born and grew up - Philippines, with it's attractive sights of islands, the blue water, the nice climate, the people around being nice and friendly, my family and friends, but I would keep going back to my home wherever I am because there is no better place like home:) - Daphne

For myself....when I read your title..."Heaven on Earth".....

I immediately pictured the inspiring towers and ice snow mountains of brilliance in the deep regions of the antarctic.

There is nowhere else on earth, that seems to magnetize

one into the mysterious, unexplored depths of icy cold explorations. The incredible colours painted across the skies, and lavished upon the ice crusted mountains, not to mention of course, the refreshing variety of wildlife that fights to exist beyond incredible odds!!! The antarctic is a wonder world of stillness, and the air it breathes, holds within its grasp, the power of life or death! Amazing stories of absolute courage in the face of potential tradgedy, is steeped almost as high as the montains themselves. You can outride many fabulous destinations with so called luxurious tantalizing accomodations and all the perks that seem to go with them, yet, when its all boiled down, its really no different in the end, to what and where people have been or somehow seen before. But the Antarctic? THERE, it takes courage, a true sense of identity and a sense of self can be found, there you will find inspiring inspiration that transcends the unexpected,

where every moment is a dream in itself, perhaps never to be repeated, yet, the memory will remain a lifetime!!!

Yes the world is ~4.5 billion years old. The more we learn the better that number adjusts. The better dating methods we have the better of an idea we get as to the age of the Earth. Keep in mind the new retardation of the Earth being 6k years old is a new concept and the old Creationists knew that the Earth was at bare minimum several million years old.

The lakes area in the north of Poland. The people are so kind and you dont ever have to choose from the menu - they only have skinny chickens or fish accompanied with corn and spuds. It is an easy, glorious place to visit. Mozzies are big - but that's the only drawback and easily overcome with repellent. Lovely place

The Philippines, specifically in the Visayas region (middle).

Everything from luxury hotels on the beach to inland resorts and native style eco resorts. The scenery can't be beat.

The people are friendly and mstly english speaking.

Definately the best value for your $ in asia for a tropical destination.

You can have it all here, everything from eco friendly and adventurous to a luxury hotel on a white sand beach and it's very cheap compared to most holiday destinations.

For me travel heaven would be an isolated place and a freshly opened up mountain biking trail that has never been used before and is never frequented by hikers!

I really love to get away and be active on my holidays, so I am always packing up the bikes or kayaks and trying to find places that aren't tourist hotspots where I can have a great time and camp without being surrounded by people.

I live in Heaven on Earth on the Gold Coast so my holidays are a little different although I try and remain in heaven as I travel. One of the most memorable holidays was when i flew to Switzeland and had a stop over in Ho Chi Minh City where I indulged in the most wonderful massage at the blind institute. It was really cheap I believe $5 for an hour and I felt I was contributing to the well being of the blind lady as well as myself. Also at the airport while having a wait to board my plane I had a wonderful foot spa and foot massage also at a reasonable price but this time It was about $20 for the hour. My feet where walking on clouds as I boarded my plane to Switzeland where I discovered a true wonderland of beauty .I rode a local comuter train and disembarked in the centre of a forest where i walked back to a village named Bremgarten along a lovely river . This village with its cobbled stone streets , quaint shops amazing bakeries clocks chiming that had been crafted to precision was truly lovely. I rode on a mountain train with light snow falling coating the pine trees and took a trip to the top of a mountain in a cable car up a sheer mountain face to see a magnificent town below . I saw churches built on top of cliffs lakes and mountains galore. Here I was in wonderland and a stark contrast to what I'm used to.

Walking from Manapouri to Dusky Sound then on to Lake Houroko in the south west of the South Island of NZ. I spent eight days there and did not see another person. Wild kiwis (the feathered sort) called out in the the night. Huge brown trout in the clear streams were tame because no one had fished them. We walked through rain forest draped in wet lichens and mosses. It was winter and there were frozen waterfalls. Comfortable huts with soft bunks and pot-bellied stoves in them are spaced a day's walk apart along the tracks. The only down side is carrying eight days worth of food, but of course the burden lessens as the days pass.

The second paradise I have spent some time in is China, the southern part of Yunnan province where it borders Laos at a place called Xishuang Banna. The people there are called Dai. In April when I was there they have the water splashing festival where everyone throws water at one another. No matter how wet they get, I never once saw someone lose his temper. The more times you get soaked, the better is everyone's attitude. The climate is sub-tropical so no one gets cold. Being a foreigner, I was "blessed" with lots of water sprayed from hoses, buckets, water guns. Even the police directing traffic were soaked as people in passing cars threw water at them. They just laughed. I remember it as a time of immense laughter.

I recently saw a documentary on a hotel/resort completely made of ice. I believe it was in Sweden. Here is a link to the website it you have not heard of it already:

http://www.icehotel.com/

Thought it was interesting to say the least. :) They melt it down after everyone leaves and start all over building a new hotel resort completely made of snow and ice each winter. They have been doing it for years and years now, apparently. They explain how they keep people warm inside, they have a bar, beds, everything...made of ice.

Heaven on Earth. Hmmm. I have 3 kids so definitely somewhere we could take them that would keep them interested, occupied and be able to teach them stuff would be excellent. Then of course, somewhere their dad and I can feel comfortable leaving them with trained, qualified supervision so we can get some peace also.

We would want somewhere sunny and warm, and not too crowded. We're antisocial! hehe

There is this absolutly amazing place in northern Wisconsin called the Apostle Islands. It has been voted top 10 places to see in the world a few times that I have seen, yet is completely underrated by tourists. Basically you go out in a kayak into these caves that have the most beautiful stalagmites and stalagtites I have ever seen. i wish more people knew about this place so that they could experience it too.

Hi Matthew,

For me it's all about the moment to capture, like the first test of an espresso in Paris, the beautiful sunset in Australia, the aroma of the spices in Morocco, the andalouse woman doing her flamenco and many others, just about that moment which you want to remember for the rest of your life by closing your eyes and enjoy each quality at its best.

The best would be a world tour of 4-5 years getting the opportunity to get away from tourist places and visit every aspect of every country. If that was possible and free, sign me in!

Lord howe Island it is so peace full that you can go to the beach touch and feed massive fish that any where else and they would bolt as soon as they had seen you or you can go to their forests and have birds fly down to you and allow you to hold them and they have the best cows big muscular and friendly and they taste fantastic if your into meat is just absolutely the place to go.

i don't know if it is heaven on earth but if you look at icleland and it's vast differences in landscape i'm sure it comes close. such a weird and wonderful place that. it's my first choice of destination when people ask me ...if you could pick one place to go on a trip where would it be? just don't fall off a glacier!

I absolutely loved The Whitsundays. My boyfriend and I with three other couples sailed The Whitsundays on a bare boat, a brand new catamaran for 10 days, stopping off at all the Islands, my favourite was Hamilton Island. It was such a fantastic time, the water was just so beautiful and so heaven at night. We snokelled, dived, & swam around all the wonderful marine life. I will try and send you a couple of photo's tomorrow if I can download tonight just so you can see how lovely it is....cheers

For me it was Surfer's Paradise on the Gold Coast. Nothing beats that. Totally relaxed just staring at the waves for hours.

heaven on earth - simple for me - our cabin out in the back of beyond where no one else is around. just me, hubby, our dog and a few good books, a couple of good wines, and bars of good chocolate. no phones, no t.v.'s, just us enjoying the solitude.

our best travel holidays are road trips - we go where we want for as long as we want. the open road stretching out ahead of us just waiting for us to find all the country's hidden treasures tucked in and around every bend!

It was heaven ---2 weeks white water rafting in Tasmania starting in the Gordon and then entering the Franklin---camping along the banks---using our blow up mattresses to ride the wild water----hiking up the mountain to see the views. Guides ,rafts and food were provided as was the final lift home by sea plane eventually.....

For me heaven on earth is seeing a waterfall for the first time with beautiful scenery that has been undisturbed on a nice hot sunny summer's day and the reason is that I really do enjoy seeing that kind of thing and I also would enjoy the fresh clean air that surrounds that scenery.

Heaven on Earth in terms of travel would be a place serene and tranquil with a

.. .....hotel wherein i will feel like home,

........Shops for memorabilia are as fair as my local shopping centre,

........People are as friendly as my neighbourhood, and

........place has more to offer to my kids than my city.

Also swiss is very impressive.

The answer to your question is in a quotation of Dr. Singh on human nature and development, as below;

"Be at peace with your self and your surroundings, no matter where you go and what you do, but do it; only with love, kindness and decency to, yourself and all."

That makes a lot of sense. You will not only experience heaven within your self and every where but you will create heaven as well in your surroundings and life of others.
