Question:
If I take a local Uhaul rental out of state, would I have a problem returning to any Uhaul store?

I rented a Uhaul truck locally but am taking it out of state. Will I have a problem dropping it off at a Uhaul location in the city I'm going to? Will I keep getting charged mileage until it is back at the drop-off location that I was saposed to take it to? Maybe after I pick up the truck, call and give them the location that I'm really going to and tell them to charge my debit card. I just don't want to get charged with grand theft auto and go to prison.

You MUST tell them that it is a one way rental. Really. Otherwise it could be regarded as theft - you really do _not_ want to get into that situation. The contract that you sign will stipulate the return point. If you do not return it to that place, then you could be billed for the cost of them transporting that unit.

If you are trying to save money - don't try to do it by cheating. You could end up being charged a whole lot more for the drop off than it would otherwise cost if you are honest with them up front.

The contract is a legal document (READ IT!), and the penalties for not abiding by the terms will be written in the contract itself (though perhaps in general terms rather than specific ones). Potentially, you could be sued for breach of that contract. You would most likely lose and have to pay not only fines, your own legal costs, but you probably end up paying _their_ legal costs as well.
