Most hotels in the U.S. allow guests into a room around 2 PM. This is because current guests have until noon to check out and it takes time to clean the rooms for new guests. You can check in at the front desk and anytime. Hotels will often store your luggage and give you access to the hotel's facilities and anenities. You may call and ask if you can have an early check in time.

Sounds like you don't travel at all. Check in DOES NOT vary by state. It DOES vary by hotel but not by much. You can't check in earlier than this unless you specifically contact the hotel.

Every hotel sets its own policies. There is a hotel I stop at 4 or 5 times per year. Check in begins at 3:00. It goes on until morning.

It doesn’t vary from state to state or time of year. States do not dictate check in times at a hotels. The hotel controls that. Most hotels have check out times at 11am. Then the staff cleans the rooms. So check in time is usually after 2 in the afternoon.

If you are going to be there earlier request early check in. IF a room is available they will allow you to check in early.

My flight for vacation just got changed. So I will not be at the hotel until midnight. I called the hotel to let them know to I will have a late check in.

You can check in at ANY time of the day.

However, you may not actually be able to get into your room until late morning or early afternoon since it may not yet have been cleaned after the last guest checked out.

Say that I reserved a room for July 9th. There have been times when I would have check in at 9 am on the 9th, and others when I would have check in at 2 am on the 10th because of flight delays..

As long as you have guaranteed the room with a credit card, you will be able to check in at any time.

Most hotels won't let you check in before 2/3pm

You'd need to check the individual hotel's check-in times, as they vary

MOST guests arrive after lunch to check into a place.

They attempt to have the rooms ready for the evening checkin that MOST do.

If the hotel has a room ready they will let you check in early.

So what you travel 3 hours. Are you departing at 5:00 AM or 9:00 AM

call the Hotel and ASK if rooms are available early the day you desire to be there.

The HOTEL desires to collect rent for the part of the 24 hr day MOST usually SLEEP.

They cannot clean a room until the previous guest checks out. They might leave early first thing or later. Check out time is usually around 10:AM to about NOON

Check in time is usually about 2:00PM to about 5:00 that the hotel expects to have rooms cleaned for the next nights guests.

IF the hotel is not full then they have rooms ready earlier. IT MIGHT NOT be the one you reserved.

EVERY HOTEL on the planet does not have identical check in or check out times.

YOU ASK the Hotel of concern their check in time. THEY MIGHT have a room earlier if the previous guest leaves early or the room was not used.

There is usually a set check out time. I have never heard of a set check in time.

If you gave them your credit card number to reserve the room, they'll hold it until checkout the next day. Which is typically 1200 noon. So you can arrive early the next day and they'll still have the room for you.

Check in time is typically after 3 PM local time. So the three hours between 12 noon and 3 PM is when house cleaning cleans up the rooms and readies them for the next clients.
