Next summer I want to take a road trip across the US. I'll be 18 years old and have my full G licence. Should I travel with a friend of two because of safety? Where are some good places to stop? I've been to Florida four times so I don't really want to stop there. I will have from the beginning of July to mid August to travel, so no time constraints. Help!

I think you will have a much better trip if you take friends. It can get really boring driving by yourself, plus you can switch up driving. A few interesting routes would be to follow the old Route 66 (see www.historic66.com) or what was known as the Lincoln Highway (see www.lincolnhighwayassoc.org). On the East Coast, follow US1 (Key West to Maine) or on the West Coast the Pacific Coast Highway. Each of these offers a wide range of attractions and places to eat that are unusual. You didn't say where you would be starting, but those are some interesting routes. Be sure to join AAA and they will supply you with maps and Tour Books, plus roadside assistance.

I have travelled alone, but never had a road by myself.

Solo travellers head off to backpacking routes (for yourself, head south to latin america or Brazil).

If you have the money do Europe or Asia.

For a road trip, the costs will be lower the the experience better with some friends. Even one friend is enough.

Or forget friends, start a blog, and try and find people to travel with. Nothing like a couple of Danish backpackers to make life interesting on a trip.

Where to go...well you should tell use where you are starting and how long you have.

But in the US the best trips are north to south (or south to north) because the US is bordered by the previously british controlled canada and the previously spanish controlled Mexico and these are 2 major influences on US culture, resulting in a journey across the land but also culture.

You can also do coast to coast as well.

I dont do it plenty now, yet I used to make the holiday on my own between the place I stay at and the place I grew up at. Its approximately 4 hours, and that i did it each and every of the time at night. the main issues whilst travelling on my own is to have each and every thing you go with with you. as an occasion, verify you have a charged cellular telephone. verify you have a tremendous style of gas, snacks and blanket interior the vehicle, understand a thank you to alter your own tire, have credit playing cards for emergenies. pay interest on your atmosphere like land marks, mile markers on the interstate (in case you dial 911 on the interstate, it is the 1st project they're gonna ask you). Dont end at relax plazas that arent employed (we've various facility in basic terms relax areas around here that in simple terms have lavatories and a few merchandising machines), in case you end, verify you end at a nicely lit section that has various public places around. In my section, the bigger truck stops are sturdy, like Truck Stops of u.s. or Flying J. they're tremendous plazas, they're open 24/7, a lot of them have on internet site protection or atleast borrowed officers fantastic around. you could assume those areas to be secure extra or much less any time of day or night. walk with self assurance, such as you have a purpose with each and every step. Dont look questioning around wishy washy approximately what you're doing, and that i carry a hand alarm with me if i'm getting too a techniques far off from my motor vehicle. understand the place you're going, have your own maps and your own instructions. you could end and ask in case you go with, yet maximum human beings dont have a clue whilst it incorporates giving instructions and that i continually get much extra misplaced. i'm 25 and characteristic made this holiday a dozen circumstances a 12 months provided that i replaced into 18 and experience fairly secure approximately it.

you will get bored by yourself and end up just driving through everything.

There are great places to see across america.

depends on what you want to drive through...
